As explained by Manufacturing Guide in “In-feed centerless grinding,” this grinding method is used for workpieces with shapes that prevent them from passing continuously through the grinding machine.
Rather than traveling completely through the grinding and regulating wheels, the workpiece is fed into the machine to a specified position for grinding. This makes in-feed grinding suitable for components with shoulders, varying diameters, or other profiles requiring localized grinding.
